The Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP) is an intensive, mentored summer research internship at George Mason University. Interns join active research groups across the sciences and engineering — in wet-lab, computational, or fully remote settings — and work on real projects alongside faculty and graduate-student mentors, earning undergraduate course credit for their participation.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Wet-lab in-person or hybrid interns must be at least 16 by mid-June
  • Remote or computer-lab interns must be at least 15 by the program start
  • No maximum age, provided the applicant has not graduated university before or during the internship
  • No minimum GPA and no letter of recommendation required at initial review
  • Selection considers STEM coursework, GPA, experience, and personal statement
  • $25 application fee (need-based waiver available) plus ~$1,299 tuition on acceptance
