ASSIST Nanosystems Engineering Research Center REU program

United States · North CarolinaUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-07487

The ASSIST NERC REU Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in research projects focused on the development of nanosystems for health and environmental monitoring. The ASSIST Nanosystems Engineering Research Center is a multi-institutional research center that aims to create innovative, energy-efficient, wearable health monitoring devices powered by body heat and other renewable energy sources. These self-powered systems can monitor vital signs, environmental conditions, and physical activity in real-time.

Interns are paired with faculty mentors and participate in research activities that align with ASSIST's goals, including the design and fabrication of nanoscale sensors, energy harvesting technologies, and integration of these technologies into wearable systems. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, as students work alongside researchers in fields such as electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, materials science, and nanotechnology.

In addition to research, the REU program includes seminars, workshops, and professional development activities that cover topics such as scientific communication, research ethics, and preparing for graduate school or careers in engineering and nanotechnology. Interns present their research findings at the end of the program during a research symposium.

Eligibility Requirements
