Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship

The Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships are designed to attract high quality overseas research students to the University of Edinburgh. Up to 30 scholarships are awarded each year to overseas postgraduate research students commencing study in any field of study offered by the University. Each scholarship covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EU graduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses. Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards are tenable for up to three years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Open to all overseas nationals commencing a PhD in any field of study offered by the University.
  • Applicants must be liable to pay tuition fees at the rate applicable to overseas students.
  • Must have applied for admission to a full-time PhD research programme of study at the University.
  • Outstanding academic merit and research potential: preferably first class Bachelor's supplemented by excellent Master's (upper second class may be considered).
  • No consideration of financial status, nationality (beyond overseas fee status), or proposed field of study.
