Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Summer Undergraduate Research Program

United States · WashingtonUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-63476

The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an intensive nine-week internship for undergraduates entering the summer before their final year of study. Participants engage in mentored biomedical research across areas such as basic sciences, human biology, public health sciences, clinical research, vaccine and infectious disease, and translational science and therapeutics. Interns complete an independent research project under faculty guidance, attend weekly research seminars and professional development workshops on topics like personal statements, graduate school applications, and scientific posters, and present their work at a competitive poster session. Social activities foster interaction among interns and mentors, including outings like Mariners games, ferry rides, and hikes.

The program runs from June 22 to August 21, 2026, requiring full commitment. Interns receive a stipend of $7,304 (pre-tax), round-trip travel reimbursement up to $450, and access to subsidized local transportation. Housing is available near campus for approximately $3,300 with scholarships for those in need; meals and local transport are intern responsibilities. A free shuttle connects Fred Hutch to the University of Washington.
