Janelia Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The Janelia Summer Undergraduate Research Program (J-SURP) is a 10-week paid summer internship designed for undergraduate students passionate about scientific research. Participants engage in cutting-edge research projects under the mentorship of Janelia's renowned scientists, gaining hands-on experience in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. J-SURP offers approximately 20 enthusiastic students the opportunity to join an exciting mentored research training environment. Interns participate in various scientific activities, including journal clubs, seminars by Janelia researchers and visiting scientists, and professional development workshops. The program culminates in a symposium where students present their research to the Janelia community.
Eligibility Requirements
- Academic Standing: Actively enrolled rising sophomore, junior, or senior.
- Affiliation: Applicants must be part of specific scholar programs, including:
- MARC or U-RISE Scholar
- Simons STEM Scholar at Stony Brook University
- Chancellor’s Science Scholar at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
- Karsh STEM Scholar at Howard University
- Meyerhoff Scholar at the University of Maryland Baltimore County
- Millennium Scholar at Penn State University
- PATHS Scholar at the University of California San Diego
- SEED Scholar at the University of California Berkeley
