Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is a prestigious 10-week program designed for undergraduate students aspiring to careers in biomedical research. Participants engage in hands-on research projects under the mentorship of Mayo Clinic's distinguished faculty, gaining valuable experience in state-of-the-art laboratories.
SURF immerses students in research opportunities across various specialized areas, including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering and Physiology, Clinical and Translational Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Neuroscience, Regenerative Sciences, and Virology. Participants work closely with mentors on projects tailored for summer students, attend a special weekly seminar series introducing rapidly progressing research areas and career development activities, and present their work at the Summer Research Poster Session.
Eligibility Requirements
- Current undergraduate students who have completed two or three years (rising juniors or seniors) at a U.S. college or university at the time the SURF program begins.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Serious consideration of a biomedical research career as a Ph.D. or M.D.-Ph.D.
- International students attending a U.S. college or university as full-time students are eligible to apply.
