MBARI Summer Internship Program

United States · CaliforniaUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-61283

The MBARI Summer Internship Program provides students with a unique opportunity to work alongside leading oceanographers, engineers, and researchers on various marine science and technology projects. The program offers a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment where students can engage in hands-on research that may involve topics such as deep-sea exploration, ocean observatories, marine biology, and the development of new oceanographic tools and technologies.

Interns at MBARI are matched with mentors based on their research interests, and they work on projects that align with MBARI’s key research areas. These projects may include studying deep-sea organisms, developing underwater robotics, or collecting and analyzing oceanographic data. The program is highly immersive, offering participants the chance to engage in both laboratory work and fieldwork, often aboard research vessels in Monterey Bay and the surrounding ocean.

In addition to research activities, the program includes seminars and workshops on scientific communication, research ethics, and career development. Interns also have the opportunity to present their research findings at the end of the internship.
