Memorial Sloan Kettering Summer Student Program
Founded in 2010, the Summer Student Program (SSP) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is designed for high school juniors interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical sciences. The program focuses on independent research in a stimulating learning environment, where students participate in an 8-week biomedical or computational lab-based internship in an MSK research lab. Paired with a mentor, students develop technical skills and complete a self-directed project supporting the Principal Investigator's objectives. Through lab meetings and program sessions, they engage with the MSK community.
Beyond lab work, students explore professional and personal development through events hosted by MSK programs, including the Office of Scientific Education & Training, clinical departments, and Human Resources. These provide insights into translational medicine and research. The 2026 program runs from June 29 to August 21, offering a $1,200 stipend but no housing. It enrolls 20 interns from over 1,000 applicants (2% acceptance rate), covering areas like cancer biology, immunology, and computational biology.
