MSU Summer Undergraduate Research Program
The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at Michigan State University offers students the opportunity to work on research projects in a variety of STEM disciplines. Through this program, participants are paired with faculty mentors and engage in original research, gaining valuable hands-on experience in laboratory or fieldwork settings. The program emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and academic development, helping students build their skills in scientific inquiry, data analysis, and critical thinking.
In addition to the research component, SURP offers seminars, workshops, and networking events focused on professional development. These activities introduce students to topics such as scientific communication, research ethics, and applying to graduate school. Participants also have the opportunity to present their research findings at the end of the program in a research symposium attended by peers, faculty, and other members of the MSU community.
The program typically provides a stipend for participants, and in some cases, housing and travel assistance may also be provided.
