The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) at Northwestern University is an eight-week competitive research experience designed for sophomores and juniors from colleges and universities across the United States. The program encompasses all fields of research at Northwestern, including social sciences, humanities, physical sciences, chemical and biological sciences, technology, mathematics, and engineering.

SROP provides undergraduate students with hands-on research experience under the mentorship of Northwestern's esteemed faculty. Participants engage in full-time research projects, attend professional development workshops, and have opportunities for networking within the graduate community. The program culminates in a research symposium where students present their findings.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a current sophomore or junior.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Have an interest in pursuing a doctoral degree (PhD) at Northwestern University. Those interested in pursuing an MBA, JD, or MD are not eligible.
