OSU Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)
The Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) is designed to provide underrepresented undergraduate students with research experiences that prepare them for graduate study. This program is part of a broader initiative by the Big Ten Academic Alliance and the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) to increase diversity in graduate education by providing talented students with the opportunity to conduct research in their field of interest under the mentorship of faculty members.
Participants in SROP work on independent research projects across a wide range of academic disciplines, from STEM fields to the humanities and social sciences. The program places a strong emphasis on preparing students for the rigors of graduate study, offering workshops on topics such as research ethics, GRE preparation, and the graduate school application process.
In addition to conducting research, SROP participants engage in a variety of academic and professional development activities. These activities may include seminars, networking events, and opportunities to present research findings at symposia or conferences. The program is designed to help students develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in graduate school and beyond.
SROP provides a stipend to participants, and in many cases, housing and travel expenses are also covered. The program is highly competitive and seeks to attract students who are committed to pursuing advanced degrees and careers in research and academia.
