Santa Fe Institute Undergraduate Complexity Research Program
The Santa Fe Institute Undergraduate Complexity Research (UCR) program is a fully funded, 10-week residential summer research experience in complexity science, held from May 31 to August 8, 2026, at the Santa Fe Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Participants develop independent transdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with SFI mentors, drawing on theory, methods, and data from physical, natural, social sciences, and mathematics to address big questions about complex systems. The program features seminars, workshops on research skills, scientific communication, and career development, as well as integration into the SFI community through lunches, teas, and presentations including a flash talk and final research presentation.
Students receive a $7,000 stipend, free on-campus housing, meals, and travel support to/from Santa Fe. Supported by the National Science Foundation BIO REU (Award No. 2349052) and donors like the Darla Moore Foundation, the program aims to foster new theories on adapting, evolving systems, build technical and professional skills, expand networks, and explore complexity science careers within a supportive community of peers and researchers.
