The SETI Institute's NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) places students in a 10-week summer research experience spanning the breadth of astrobiology, working with scientists at the SETI Institute and nearby NASA Ames Research Center on projects from microbiology to planetary geology to observational astronomy. The 2026 program ran May 31 to August 8, 2026, and includes a field trip to the Hat Creek Radio Astronomy Observatory and Lassen Volcanic National Park. Financial support is $7,000 ($700/week), plus dorm housing and travel reimbursement.
Eligibility Requirements
- Undergraduate student who has completed freshman year before the summer of the internship
- Will still be an undergraduate during the fall term following the summer of the internship
- US citizen or US permanent resident (green card)
- Able to devote yourself full-time to the 10-week summer internship
