Summer Undergraduate Research or Internship Experience in Acoustics
The Summer Undergraduate Research or Internship Experience in Acoustics (SURIEA) is designed to expose undergraduate students to the field of acoustics through research projects or internships at academic institutions, government labs, or private sector organizations. The program is aimed at students from underrepresented groups or those who have limited access to acoustics research opportunities at their home institutions.
Participants in SURIEA work on a range of acoustics-related topics, which may include environmental acoustics, noise control, architectural acoustics, psychoacoustics, underwater acoustics, and more. The research or internship projects are supervised by experienced acousticians who serve as mentors, providing guidance and support throughout the program.
In addition to hands-on research or internship work, the program offers professional development activities such as seminars, workshops, and networking events. These activities are designed to help students explore careers in acoustics, develop research skills, and prepare for graduate studies or professional careers.
