Tufts Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (Tufts PREP)
The Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program (Tufts PREP) is designed to provide recent college graduates, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds in the biomedical sciences, with the opportunity to gain extensive research experience and enhance their qualifications for graduate school. Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Tufts PREP is a year-long program that offers participants hands-on research experience in cutting-edge biomedical laboratories at Tufts University.
Participants in the Tufts PREP program work closely with faculty mentors on independent research projects, gaining valuable experience in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. The program also includes professional development activities, such as workshops on applying to graduate programs, preparing for the GRE, and developing a research career. Participants receive individualized mentoring and guidance throughout the application process for PhD or MD/PhD programs.
The Tufts PREP program aims to increase diversity in the biomedical sciences by providing a supportive environment where participants can build the skills and confidence needed to succeed in competitive graduate programs. Participants are provided with a stipend, health insurance, and assistance with graduate school applications. The program is ideal for students who have completed their undergraduate degree and are seeking to strengthen their research credentials before applying to graduate school.
