The Summer of Learning and Research (SOLAR) Program at the University of North Carolina is designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on research experience in the biomedical sciences. This program aims to encourage students from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in research and healthcare. Participants will work under the mentorship of UNC faculty members, engage in research projects, attend seminars, and present their findings at the end of the program.

Eligibility Requirements

  •  Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or have DACA status.
  • Must be a current undergraduate student at the time of application.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Demonstrated interest in biomedical research and pursuing a career in healthcare or research.
  • Students from underrepresented groups in the sciences, economically disadvantaged backgrounds, or those who have overcome significant educational, social, or economic barriers are encouraged to apply.
  • Admission is limited to rising sophomores, juniors and seniors. Applicants need to be 18 years old when the program begins.  First-generation college students and students from groups under-represented in the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply
