The University of Iowa Summer Undergraduate Medical Scientist Training Program Research (SUMR) is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a combined MD/PhD degree. This program provides hands-on research experience under the mentorship of distinguished faculty members in a variety of biomedical research fields. Participants will engage in a full-time research project, attend seminars, and gain exposure to the clinical aspects of medicine. The goal of the program is to prepare students for careers as physician-scientists.
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Rising sophomore, junior, or senior (graduation should not be before December 2023).
- Major in a STEM field or premed.
- Prior research experience required.
