The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) offers undergraduate students an opportunity to engage in hands-on research in the biomedical sciences. Participants work under the mentorship of UMMC faculty members, gaining valuable experience in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific communication. The program includes workshops, seminars, and a final presentation of research findings.
Eligibility Requirements
In order to be considered eligible for the UMMC SURE program, applicants must:
- Submit a completed application, including two online faculty recommendations, prior to the application deadline
- Confirm undergraduate status – All undergraduates, up to rising seniors, are eligible to apply. Current high school seniors who are graduating prior to the start of the SURE program and have been accepted into an undergraduate program are also eligible to apply
- Undergraduates who are expected to graduate prior to the start of the SURE program are considered ineligible
- Include a valid US Social Security number
- The SURE Program cannot sponsor visa requests for potential applicants who reside outside of the U.S.
