The Genomics Summer Research for Minorities (GSRM) program at the University of Utah is designed to provide undergraduate students from underrepresented minority groups with hands-on research experience in the field of genomics. The program aims to inspire participants to pursue advanced degrees and careers in genomics and related fields. Participants will work alongside experienced researchers, engage in cutting-edge projects, and gain valuable skills in genomic analysis, bioinformatics, and laboratory techniques.

2026 program dates: late May – early August 2026 (10 weeks; exact dates TBA — 2025 was May 28–Aug 1)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled in a degree program.
  • Must belong to an underrepresented minority group in the sciences (e.g., African American, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander).
  • Must have a strong interest in pursuing research and a career in genomics or related fields.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
