The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) at UT Southwestern Medical Center is an intensive 10-week program (June 1 - August 7, 2026) designed for undergraduates pursuing careers in biomedical research. Participants engage in individual research projects under the mentorship of faculty members, gaining hands-on experience in modern research techniques and contributing to innovative scientific inquiries across 14 available fields including biological chemistry, cancer biology, neuroscience, immunology, and genetics.
Eligibility Requirements
- Enrollment in an undergraduate science degree program with freshman year completed.
- U.S. citizenship or possession of an F1 visa.
- Commitment to not enroll in courses, hold a job, volunteer, or plan vacations during the 10-week period.
- Quarter-system students may join up to one week late.
- Interest in pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD.
