Virginia Tech Undergraduate Summer Research Internship
MAOP provides support for diverse students who demonstrate a clear commitment to the pursuit of academic excellence. The Virginia Tech Multicultural Academic Opportunities Program (MAOP) Undergraduate Summer Research Internship is an intensive 10-week summer program designed to provide research experience to undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds. The program aims to prepare students for graduate school and careers in STEM fields by pairing them with faculty mentors to conduct research in various disciplines. Participants will engage in hands-on research, attend seminars and workshops, and present their findings at the end of the program.
Note : It is a 10‑week summer research period (May 26–July 31, 2026), orientation, weekly professional development seminars, and the Summer Research Conference
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing research and graduate studies.
- Preference given to students from underrepresented groups in STEM fields, including racial/ethnic minorities, first-generation college students, and those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
