The Dr. Ralph Nicholls Graduate Scholarship was established as a tribute to Dr. Ralph Nicholls for his years of dedicated service to York University and his mentorship of students and faculty. This scholarship supports graduate students conducting research in Physics, Astronomy, Atmospheric, or Space Sciences. The award is given to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, research potential, and a commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.

Value: One award of up to $4,500 (subject to change).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be full-time graduate students (incoming or continuing) in Physics, Astronomy, Atmospheric, or Space Sciences.
  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons residing in Ontario.
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Meet the following criteria based on their student status:
    • Incoming students: Exhibit outstanding academic achievement (minimum GPA of A in the last two years of full-time studies) and participate in scientific activities related to their area of study.
    • Continuing students: Demonstrate a high level of research and academic performance, as well as good communication skills through teaching, presentations (conferences/seminars), or publishing research papers.
