UWM Irene De Cleene Award
The Irene De Cleene Award is a scholarship designed to support students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who are dedicated to furthering the cause of equal opportunities for underrepresented groups in the American workplace. This scholarship is available to both undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies. The award aims to encourage research and academic endeavors that promote equity and inclusion, particularly in areas related to gender equality and workplace rights.
Applicants are expected to submit an essay detailing how their research aligns with the goals of the award, focusing on ensuring equal rights, pay, and benefits for underrepresented groups. In addition to the essay, a resume and academic transcripts are required. The scholarship provides a one-year stipend of $500, which is awarded at the end of the spring semester to be used during the following academic year.
The recipient of the Irene De Cleene Award is announced by April 15, 2024. This award is an opportunity for students committed to social justice and gender equality to gain financial support for their academic endeavors, contributing to a more equitable society.
Eligibility Requirements
- A UW-Madison undergraduate or graduate student, and United States Citizen, and a Student in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies, and whose field of study is related to equal opportunities and rights for underrepresented groups in the American workplace.
- Application: Please submit application materials via Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH).
- The application should include the following (please combine them into a single PDF, if possible)
- An essay (up to 600 words) on how your research is focused on furthering the cause of ensuring equal rights, pay, and benefits for underrepresented groups or populations in the American workplace.
- A resume
- Complete transcripts from UW-Madison (unofficial transcripts accepted)
- Award: The one-year award will provide a stipend of $500, which will be awarded at the end of the Spring semester to be used during the following academic year. Recipient will be announced by April 15, 2024.
