The Fox International Fellowship is a graduate student exchange program between Yale University and 20 partner universities across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, with more than 800 alumni in its network. Established in 1988 to foster intellectual exchange between Yale and Moscow State University during the Cold War, it has since expanded worldwide. Fellows spend a year at a partner institution conducting research, with a focus on international relations, global affairs, environmental policy, public health, economics, political science, law, and contemporary history.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduate or professional school students at Yale University (or, separately, at a Fox exchange partner institution).
  • Doctoral students should have finished coursework; master's/professional students need administrative approval to interrupt coursework.
  • Strong communicative competence in the host country's language(s).
  • Not open to postdoctoral applicants, or international students proposing a project in their home country.
