The Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is a 10-week program designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on research experience in biomedical sciences. Participants engage in cutting-edge research projects, refine critical thinking skills, and build professional networks, all while being introduced to various scientific disciplines.

SPUR has been offered at MCW for over 40 years, hosting approximately 35 participants each summer from across the country. The program aims to prepare students for scientific-based graduate studies by providing valuable research experience and professional development opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university with at least sophomore or junior standing.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.2 is required.
  • Intended for students who plan to pursue scientific-based graduate studies.
  • A complete application includes an online application form, two letters of recommendation from current or former professors/instructors or advisors, and official transcripts from all current or previously attended colleges/universities.
