Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Materials
The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Materials Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on research in the field of materials science. This program is designed to immerse students in a research environment, where they can contribute to ongoing research projects, develop technical skills, and gain valuable experience in scientific inquiry and problem-solving.
Participants in the REU program work on a variety of research topics related to materials science, including the development and characterization of new materials, studying the properties of materials at the nanoscale, and exploring the applications of materials in energy, electronics, and biotechnology. Students are paired with faculty mentors and often collaborate with graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
In addition to conducting research, the program includes seminars, workshops, and professional development activities designed to prepare students for graduate school and careers in research. Topics covered may include research ethics, scientific communication, and career pathways in materials science.
