Research & Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (REEU) in Plant Pathology
The Research & Extension Experiences for Undergraduates (REEU) in Plant Pathology at Kansas State University is a summer research internship that provides students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in the field of plant pathology. The program offers students both research and extension experiences, focusing on plant disease management and the impact of plant pathogens on crop production and agricultural sustainability.
Participants in the REEU program work on research projects related to plant disease diagnostics, disease resistance, integrated pest management, plant-microbe interactions, and more. Students are mentored by faculty from the K-State Department of Plant Pathology and gain experience in laboratory research, fieldwork, and data analysis. Additionally, the program includes extension activities, where students engage with farmers, agricultural professionals, and the public to disseminate research findings and best practices for plant disease management.
The program also includes professional development activities, such as workshops on scientific communication, research ethics, and career development. Students will have the opportunity to present their research findings at the end of the program during a final symposium.
The program provides a stipend for participants, and housing and travel assistance may be offered for students from outside the Manhattan, Kansas area.
