Research Immersion: Pathways to STEM (RiPS)
The Research Immersion: Pathways to STEM (RiPS) program at the Kansas State University provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research under the guidance of KU faculty. The program is particularly focused on enhancing the diversity of students in STEM fields by supporting students from underrepresented groups, including racial/ethnic minorities and first-generation college students.
Participants work on research projects in various STEM disciplines, including biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, physics, and computer science. Students are paired with faculty mentors who guide them through the research process, from experimental design to data collection and analysis. The program aims to build students’ research skills and expose them to the academic and professional opportunities that STEM fields offer.
In addition to research, the RiPS program includes professional development workshops, seminars, and networking events that focus on scientific communication, research ethics, and preparing for graduate school. Students also participate in social activities designed to build community among participants.
