The Research Intensive Summer Experience (RISE) at Rutgers University is a nationally acclaimed summer research program designed for outstanding undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. Participants engage in cutting-edge research across various disciplines under the mentorship of Rutgers faculty.
RISE scholars participate in research in the biological, physical, and social/behavioral sciences, math, engineering, and interdisciplinary areas. The program includes professional development workshops, optional GRE preparation, wellness workshops, social and recreational activities, and community engagement opportunities.
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible to work in the U.S. (For NSF REUs and some other grant-funded RISE partners, only citizens or permanent residents are eligible.)
- Interest in considering a future PhD program
- Completion of at least the sophomore year by June 2025. Occasionally, we consider current first-years with extraordinary credentials.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (on 4.0 scale). Admission is highly selective, and successful applicants typically have excellent academic records.
