The Summer Training as Research Scholars (STaRS) Internship Program at Boston University is an immersive research experience designed to prepare undergraduate students for careers in biomedical research and related fields. The program is hosted by the Boston University School of Medicine and provides students with the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors, with a focus on heart, lung, and blood research. The 2026 program runs onsite for 9 weeks from June 1 to July 31, 2026 (move-in May 31, 2026), and includes a stipend, round-trip travel, university housing, and two summer courses. Decisions are released between March 15 and early April.
Eligibility Requirements
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Expected to graduate in 2027 and beyond
- Currently enrolled in a STEM degree program (part-time or full-time) leading to a Bachelor's degree
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale)
- Have an interest in biological research
- Submit three letters of recommendation
