STaRS Internship Program
The Summer Training as Research Scholars (STaRS) Internship Program at Boston University is an immersive research experience designed to prepare undergraduate students for careers in biomedical research and related fields. The program is hosted by the Boston University School of Medicine and provides students with the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors.
STaRS participants are involved in all aspects of the research process, from experimental design and data collection to analysis and interpretation of results. The program places a strong emphasis on developing research skills, critical thinking, and scientific communication. Students have the opportunity to work in state-of-the-art laboratories and contribute to ongoing research projects in areas such as cancer biology, neuroscience, genetics, and pharmacology.
In addition to laboratory research, the STaRS program includes a series of professional development workshops, seminars, and networking events. These activities are designed to prepare students for graduate school and careers in the biomedical sciences. Topics covered in these sessions may include research ethics, scientific writing, graduate school applications, and career planning.
At the end of the program, students present their research findings at a symposium attended by peers, faculty, and other members of the Boston University community. This experience allows students to refine their presentation skills and receive feedback on their work.
