University of Auckland Summer Research Scholarships

New ZealandUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-46997

The University of Auckland Summer Research Scholarships provide high-achieving domestic and international students with an opportunity to gain hands-on research experience at Waipapa Taūmata Rau, University of Auckland. Participants work on a clearly defined research project under the supervision of a faculty academic for approximately 10 weeks (400 hours) during the summer months from December to February. The program aims to encourage students to pursue postgraduate studies by exposing them to real-world research environments, interacting with leading researchers and postgraduate students, and developing essential research skills.

Scholars receive a tax-free stipend of $6,750, paid in fortnightly installments starting from 1 December, subject to project commencement confirmation. Projects are listed by faculty closer to the application opening date, and students must select and secure supervisor agreement for their chosen project. The experience enhances CVs, offers networking opportunities, and may lead to co-authorship on publications or conference presentations.

Participants must be co-located with their supervisor and cannot hold paid University employment or tutor positions during the tenure, though up to 100 hours of external paid work is permitted with approval. Enrollment in the SUMRESCH 301 course is handled by the Scholarships Office. All applicants are notified of outcomes by late September.
