University of Rochester Summer Scholars Program
The University of Rochester Summer Scholars Program offers undergraduate students the opportunity to engage in intensive research projects under the mentorship of faculty members. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience in various academic disciplines, fostering a deeper understanding of the research process and enhancing students' academic and professional skills. Participants will work on independent research projects, attend workshops, and present their findings at the end of the program.
2026 program dates: June 1 – July 31, 2026 (9 weeks)
Eligibility Requirements
- Current matriculated college sophomore or junior attending a U.S. institution of higher education
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien, undocumented student with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA), or current F1 visa holder at a U.S. college or university
- Minimum cumulative GPA 3.0
- demonstrates exceptional promise for success at U of R as evidenced by academic and research background and aspirations
- demonstrates strength of character as evidenced by faculty recommendation letters and personal statement
- able to commit to a 10-week summer residential research program without interruption
Applicants must additionally meet one or more of the following criteria:
- can describe how their educational and socio-cultural experiences or geographic background can enhance the diversity and inclusion mission of the School of Medicine & Dentistry
- can describe their sustained commitment to diversity and inclusion in the academic, professional, or civic realm through their work experience, volunteer engagement, or leadership of student or community organizations in a way that directly contributes to the quality of the intellectual environment of the university;
- hails from a financially disadvantaged background
- is a non-native English speaker
- Is a first-generation four-year college student
