The Astronaut Scholarship, awarded by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (founded by the Mercury Seven astronauts), supports exceptional STEM undergraduates who intend to pursue research careers. The Foundation awards more than 70 scholarships of up to $15,000 each, along with mentoring, professional development, and access to a network of astronauts and scientists. Candidates are nominated by faculty at ASF-affiliated universities, not by direct student application.
Eligibility Requirements
- US citizen (native-born or naturalised)
- Sophomore applying for junior-year support, or junior applying for senior-year support
- Enrolled at an ASF participating university with one year of full-time study there
- Pursuing a STEM degree with intent to do research
- Nominated by university faculty (no direct student application)
