The Hilde Domin Programme, administered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA), supports students and doctoral candidates worldwide who are at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin. The programme provides these individuals with an opportunity to begin or complete a study or research degree at a higher education institution in Germany. The scholarship covers necessary costs incurred during their study or research stay, including living expenses and tuition fees. Additionally, all Master's and PhD beneficiaries participate in an accompanying interdisciplinary programme to enhance their personal and professional development.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students and doctoral candidates from all academic disciplines, except for artistic and medical courses of study where placement is challenging due to numerus clausus and aptitude tests.
  • Applicants must be at risk of being formally or de facto denied educational or other rights in their country of origin due to their ethnic, sexual, gender, or religious identity, and/or their political or civic engagement.
  • Candidates cannot apply directly but must be nominated by an institution or organization domiciled in Germany that operates in the fields of science, research, teaching, human rights protection, democracy promotion, rule of law, or peacebuilding.
  • Candidates should have educational certificates qualifying them for entry into higher education and supporting the pursuit of the desired degree.
