The Cowrie Foundation Scholarships
The Cowrie Foundation Scholarships at The University of Manchester aim to support Black African and Caribbean heritage students from socio-economically underrepresented backgrounds by providing financial assistance and mentoring throughout their undergraduate studies. In partnership with The Cowrie Scholarship Foundation, The University of Manchester offers scholarships to address financial barriers faced by talented Black British students. This initiative, which began in 2021, plans to support 23 students with study and living costs during their degrees, along with access to mentoring.
Details:
- Tuition fees: Full coverage for the duration of the degree, excluding any industrial placement years.
- Annual bursary: £8,000 to assist with living expenses.
Eligibility Requirements
- Identify as one of the following:
- Black or Black British – Caribbean
- Black or Black British – African
- Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
- Mixed – White and Black African
- Other Black background
- Firmly accepted an offer to study at The University of Manchester for a degree starting in the relevant academic year by the UCAS acceptance deadline.
- Assessed as a 'home' student for tuition fee purposes.
- Household income: £25,000 per annum or less.
- Applied to the appropriate regional student funding authority for income-assessed UK government financial support for higher education and consented to share this information with the University.
