University of Waterloo International Master's Award of Excellence

CanadaMaster'sEntry ID: SC-44013

The International Master's Award of Excellence (IMAE), effective from May 1, 2019, provides $2,500 per term for a maximum of five full-time terms (up to $12,500 total) within the program's time limits (typically 6 terms). It supports eligible international students entering research-based graduate master's programs (thesis or major research paper) at the University of Waterloo. Faculties nominate students based on their award allocations, selecting based on academic excellence demonstrated in the admission application. Students are automatically considered—no separate application is needed. The award can be held alongside other scholarships like the UW Graduate Scholarship or OGS, but generally not with foreign government sponsorships or excess self-funding beyond faculty minimums. It applies to Winter, Spring, and Fall terms.
