Columbia University Summer Research Program for Science and Engineering
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Program is a 10-week summer research program held in New York City for talented undergraduate students. Participants engage in hands-on laboratory research with Columbia Engineering faculty, receive mentoring from graduate students and faculty, and participate in professional development seminars, graduate school preparation, industry visits, and social activities throughout NYC. The program aims to foster career exploration at the frontiers of engineering research, prepare students for STEM careers, and encourage pursuit of graduate studies. It culminates in a Summer Research Symposium where students present their work.
Fully funded, the program provides room and board, a summer stipend, and other support. It targets rising juniors and seniors from U.S. institutions, promoting diversity in STEM. No prior research experience is required, but strong curiosity and academic record in STEM are essential. Applications for the 2026 program opened on December 30, 2025.
