European Central Bank Graduate Programme

GermanyGraduatePhDPostdocEntry ID: PR-49077

The ECB Graduate Programme is a two-year fixed-term development programme for highly talented recent graduates with postgraduate degrees, preferably a PhD, offering excellent opportunities to gain valuable experience and insights into the ECB's tasks and working methods in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Participants undertake two challenging one-year assignments in different business areas, matched to organizational needs, expertise, and interests indicated in the application. This provides hands-on application of knowledge across ECB's broad mandate, including economics, banking supervision, IT, communications, law, data, and climate topics. In the second year, participants select and prepare a project paper with business area managers, assessed alongside performance reviews by the Graduate Programme Committee for successful completion.

The programme includes personalized support through an experienced mentor, on-the-job learning in innovative multicultural teams, and access to in-house and external training. It serves as a springboard to an expert career at the ECB, with possibilities for internal/external vacancy applications during the programme (post-probation), optional one-year extension to expert level (F/G band), and direct appointment to expert positions upon completion. The ECB emphasizes an inclusive, people-centred culture, diversity, and contributing to Europe's financial stability for 350 million citizens.
