Established in 2009, the SURE program provides undergraduate students with early exposure to cutting-edge research within the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University. Participants work on specific research projects for 16 weeks during the summer under the supervision of faculty members. The program aims to enhance research skills, promote academic growth, and provide insights into graduate school and research careers.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate student enrolled in the McGill Faculty of Engineering; Year 0 students not eligible (Year 0 with transfer credits must confirm suitability with their supervisor)
  • Year 1+ students (and CEGEP-entry students) must have completed at least two academic terms at McGill before the SURE project starts
  • Minimum CGPA of 3.0 required
  • Canadian bank account required; international students need valid work authorization (study/work permit or exemption)
  • Also open to May 2026 (Winter 2026) graduates, with additional NSERC USRA eligibility rules for that award type
  • Cannot be combined with a concurrent Internship/co-op position
