Microsoft Research Internship Program
The Microsoft Research Undergraduate Research Internship – Computing is a 12-week summer program designed for advanced undergraduate students passionate about computing research. Hosted at US-based Microsoft Research labs in Redmond, New York City, and New England, interns engage in state-of-the-art research across diverse areas such as AI, computer vision, security, and more. Participants select from tracks including Research, Research Software Engineering, or Research Program Management, working closely with world-class researchers, postdocs, and doctoral students to contribute to ongoing projects. The program emphasizes mentoring, community building, networking, and aims to encourage participants to pursue advanced degrees in computing fields.
Interns collaborate in small teams to complete research projects with goals of publishing papers at conferences/journals or transferring results to Microsoft product teams. On-the-job learning is augmented by formal training, presentations, and immersion in the Microsoft Research community. The program particularly seeks diverse perspectives, encouraging applications from underrepresented groups in engineering and computer science. All internships are paid, with benefits including possible relocation and transportation support.
