The NRMP Main Residency Match is the central system through which medical graduates obtain accredited residency (postgraduate specialty training) positions in the United States. Applicants apply to individual programs through the AAMC's ERAS system and then submit a ranked list of programs to the NRMP, which uses an algorithm to match applicants to positions. It is a gateway/entry-point listing rather than a single program, intended to help applicants understand and navigate the US residency application timeline. The season runs across the academic year: ERAS applicants may begin submitting applications to programs in early September, NRMP registration opens 15 September 2026, the applicant standard registration deadline is 29 January 2027, Rank Order List certification closes 3 March 2027, and results are released during Match Week beginning 15 March 2027 (Match Day 19 March 2027). International medical graduates are eligible and participate in large numbers, subject to ECFMG certification.
