CaRMS R-1 Main Residency Match (Canada)

The CaRMS R-1 Main Residency Match is the national system that matches medical graduates to accredited postgraduate residency positions at Canadian medical schools. Applicants apply to programs through CaRMS Online and submit ranked preference lists; a matching algorithm places applicants into positions across two iterations. For the 2026 R-1 first iteration, the applicant application deadline was 27 November 2025 at 12:00 noon ET (with an extended deadline of 8 December 2025 for Ontario IMG programs following a court decision). International medical graduates may apply but must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and must have passed the required MCC and NAC examinations.
