Aga Khan University — Postgraduate Medical Education (MMed Residency), East Africa
Aga Khan University offers Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) residency programmes leading to a Master of Medicine (MMed) degree, based at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya and Aga Khan Hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Programmes run for four years of structured clinical training and examinations across around nine specialisations. Admission is by direct application to the University; applications for the 2026 intake closed 9 January 2026. The pathway is well suited to medical graduates in East Africa and the wider Global South seeking accredited specialty training on the continent.
Eligibility Requirements
- MBChB/MBBS or equivalent medical qualification acceptable to Aga Khan University
- Registration (or eligibility) with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) or the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT)
- Completed at least one year of medical internship after qualification by the start of residency
- Meet AKU academic and selection requirements
