UO Presidential Undergraduate Research Scholars

The PURS program is designed to provide undergraduate students in the specified fields with an in-depth research experience during the academic year. This program is particularly focused on supporting students from populations that are underrepresented in these fields. Students selected for the program will conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor and will participate in a weekly course covering topics such as research ethics, scholarly writing, career preparation, and graduate school applications.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be a graduate from a high school within the state of Oregon.
- Must be an undergraduate majoring in chemistry, physics, earth sciences, mathematics, or computer science.
- Must be an enrolled student at the University of Oregon at the time of application and throughout the academic year of participation.
- Must have junior year academic standing (exceptionally talented sophomores may be considered).
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
- Preference is given to students who are first-generation college students, from low-income backgrounds, or from underrepresented populations in the sciences.
