The University of Oregon Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to engage in research projects under the mentorship of UO faculty members. Participants gain hands-on research experience, develop their academic and professional skills, and explore potential career paths in various fields of study. The program includes workshops, seminars, and a final research symposium where students present their findings

Eligibility Requirements

  • International students may be accepted provided they have external funding
  • Be of at least 18 years of age before the program starts on June 17th, 2024
  • Have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework, and not planning to graduate before the program starts (i.e., Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors that have extra semesters to complete are eligible).
  • Have interest in pursuing an advanced degree in life sciences in the pursuit of a research career.
    Be able to commit fully to the program timeline, including 40 hour work weeks, pre-program correspondence with our administrators, and weekly workshop attendance. Tentative 2023 program dates are June 19 – August 18.
  • Should not be planning to take Summer classes during the time of the program.
  • For federally funded programs (i.e., only for consideration by NSF- or NIH-supported programs), be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident with a Green Card
