The Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Graduate Fellowship is a four-year program for incoming PhD students at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), or Singapore Management University (SMU). Students conduct their doctoral research at the SMART Centre in Singapore, focusing on projects within SMART's Interdisciplinary Research Groups (IRGs). The program offers co-supervision by faculty from MIT and the student's home university in Singapore, providing access to world-class research environments.

Awards include full tuition and school fees for up to four years, a monthly stipend of $3,500 (with CPF contributions for Singapore citizens), and funding for a one-time research residency of up to six months at MIT. No service bond is required, though students with existing MOE tuition bonds may need a Banker's Guarantee. The program aims to attract top global talent to develop future leaders in science and technology.

There is also a highly selective Postdoctoral SMART Scholars program for recent PhD graduates with less than three years of postdoctoral experience, allowing independent research aligned with SMART IRGs, with generous stipend, research grant, and travel funds.
