University of Tokyo Research Internship Program (UTRIP)

JapanUndergraduateEntry ID: PR-69795

Launched in 2010 by the Graduate School of Science (GSS) at the University of Tokyo, UTRIP is an intensive six-week summer research internship program designed for outstanding undergraduate students from outside Japan. Participants conduct hands-on research under the guidance of renowned faculty in the GSS departments of physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth & planetary science, and biological sciences. The program serves as a gateway to graduate study at UTokyo, helping students experience advanced research and academic life in Japan.

In addition to research, the program includes academic lectures on science frontiers and GSS guidance, a Japanese language and culture course, social events such as parties with UTokyo students, field trips, workshops (bonsai, yukata, tea ceremony), and a reception. Participants must submit a supervisor-approved final research report and give oral presentations. The 2026 program runs from June 24 to August 4.
