The WACCBIP postdoctoral fellowship program (run under the WACCBIP-DELTAS initiative) is designed to support newly graduated PhDs in establishing their independent research careers. The program has been funded by the Wellcome Trust and DELTAS Africa, and aims to boost research quality and productivity at WACCBIP and its regional partner institutions. The fellowship provides an opportunity for early-career scientists to work in a high-caliber research environment, develop scientific leadership skills, and network with other scientists across Africa and beyond. Since 2014, WACCBIP has provided fellowships for master's, PhD, and postdoctoral training to more than 200 young scientists from more than 10 countries.
Eligibility Requirements
- African with a PhD degree obtained within the last five (5) years
- Strong interest in developing a research career in the biosciences in Africa
- Ability to develop an innovative research proposal that can be completed within 3 years
- Highly motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision
- Commitment to high research ethics standards
- Interest in the specified priority disease areas and research themes
