The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service, funded by the US Department of Defense, fully funds STEM students in exchange for guaranteed civilian employment with the DoD after graduation. Applications are accepted annually from August to December, with the deadline falling on the first Friday of December each year.
Eligibility Requirements
- Citizen of the US, UK, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
- At least 18 years old by 1 January of the award year
- GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, maintained through degree completion
- Enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a SMART-approved STEM discipline at a US institution
- Willing to accept the DoD civilian-service commitment
