University of Geneva Excellence Master Fellowships

The Faculty of Science of the University of Geneva, an internationally recognized leading research institution, offers the Excellence Master Fellowships to outstanding and highly motivated students pursuing a Master of Science degree in disciplines such as astronomy, biology, chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, pharmaceutical sciences, and earth sciences. The fellowship provides a grant of CHF 10,000 to CHF 15,000 per year with no teaching duties required. It is initially awarded for one year and can be extended for the regular duration of the Master's program (three or four semesters), contingent on academic success at the end of the first semester.

Selection is based purely on excellence, targeting top students from any university who have demonstrated brilliant performance in their Bachelor's degree. Master's programs are offered entirely in English or in English and French, preparing students for careers in academia, industry, teaching, administration, communication, and media. The Faculty hosts prestigious National Centres of Competence in Research (SwissMAP, Planets) and numerous European projects, providing a cutting-edge research environment.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Outstanding and highly motivated students who are among the best in their Bachelor's year, regardless of home university
  • Must meet the admission criteria for the chosen Master of Science program at the Faculty of Science
  • Cannot have already started a Master program at the Faculty of Science
  • Must complete the UNIGE enrollment procedure via the Admissions office website
  • Submit a complete application including CV, transcripts, motivation letter, two reference letters, ID/passport, and proof of enrollment (UNIGE card or confirmation email)
  • Optional: GRE, TOEFL, or other test results
